Hi Everyone,
Here is a quick update. The word from Dr. Mercola's office is to finish taking all of my supplements for the adrenal glands and digestive system. When this is done I am to wait 4-6 weeks and then get my bloodwork redone to see how I'm doing.
Being told to wait is very hard for me when I want to be well NOW. I am having a particularly frustrating week with my blood sugar levels. It's probably due to the stress of the recent water problems and now car repairs. The good news is that, thanks to following Dave Ramsey's financial plan, we have the funds in place to pay for these things so the finances aren't really as much of an issue.
So, I started reading Asa Andrew's book, Empowering Your Health, again. One thing he prescribes to help heal the adrenals is to abstain from eating red meat for 4 weeks. So guess what I am going to try to do? Yep, you got it. I am going to attempt to eat just chicken, fish, & turkey, but I am also adding more fruits and vegetables to my diet. I am also being more diligent in the amount of oils/fats I'm getting each day. So today I had an apple for the first time in months. It was like candy to me. Yum! And...my blood sugar levels went down. Amazing!
My goal is to eat the 1/3 carbs, 1/3 proteins, and 1/3 fats for each meal and to follow Asa's anti-inflammatory diet. This means that I will no longer be following Dr. Mercola's metabolic type diet. I'll let you all know how it goes.
Debbie
P.S. Oh, and I have to tell you all that we are celebrating tonight. It is our 14th Anniversary. Our marriage has not always been easy or smooth, but I wouldn't change it for anything. We are always going through The Refiner's fire, but we always come out so much better, stronger and more in love as a couple. My health has been a trial not only for me, but for the rest of the family as well. I thank God every day that they have all stuck by me through it all. I am blessed.

congrats on the anniversary!!!! I've given up the MT diet completely. It simply didn't work for me.
I happened upon this blog when searching for 'adrenal distress' or something similar. I am currently taking ortho-adapt for my distress and have seen a difference but still have a ways to go. It's nice to hear about other people's experiences and what they're doing to overcome the problem. Good luck!
Debbie, I, too, was excited about Dr. Andrew after seeing him on Christian t.v. but since going to his office three times, I'm seeing red flags everywhere. You have to wait an hour or two even if you have an appointment. Unexpected charges come up on your bill. I haven't gotten straight answers but more like the run around. No one ever explained to me about having treatments and manipulations before getting the bloodwork results. I feel like they are bilking me and my insurance company out of lots of money for questionable treatments. The initial consultation alone cost me over $400.00. All these manipulations showed up on my bill. I called them and told them he didn't do any manipulations and they claim that he did, but that the newer techniques are so subtle most patients don't realize it. I haven't even gotten the results from my bloodwork, yet which is what he claims he begins with on his website. They want you to come in four or five times and take a detox foot bath, which is a total scam, at $35.00 a session. If he is doing this to fill his pockets as a Christian, I am really sick about it. Please email me sometime and let me know your exeriences: dmbutler1@gmail.com
Sorry to rant but I am really disgusted with them.
Donna,
Thanks for your input. I am sorry you have had such a negative experience. My appt to see Dr. Asa Andrew is at the end of May. The first receptionist I spoke with, Debbie, was very informative about what to expect, including treatment and manipulations before the bloodwork. I have heard from other patients of his that you really have to push Dr. Asa as to why he is doing certain things and what those treatments will accomplish. In other words, make him teach you.
I can understand your disgust with a lack of answers to your billing statements. I had problems getting supplements I needed from Dr. Mercola's staff in Chicago. They were a royal pain to work with so I'm dropping them.
Anyway, Maybe a trip in person to the office would help and/or a letter. I don't know your whole situation.
However, my main questions to you are: How do you feel? Are you getting better? Have the treatments been effective? If not, does Dr. Andrew know this and what is he doing about it?
I have searched Asa Andrew on the state of Tennessee's database for verification of medical licenses and all he is listed as is a chiropractor. I think the "board certified physician" phrase they use on his web site and in his book are quite inaccurate based on this information.
Anonymous ~ Thank you for your comment. I will research this further.
I have been to see Dr. Asa Andrews 3 times. I will go see him for my fourth visit this week. The diet has made me feel better than I have ever felt. The office visits on the other hand are very confusing and not very informative. His office staff is very disorganized. I think Dr Andrews is overwhelmed. I hope all goes well for you when you see him.
I also go and visit Dr. Asa once a week. I started 2/19/08.It has been nothing but successful! I was having a migraine at least four or five times a week. I was on persription drugs that were not helping and having bad side effects. Now, I am 30 pounds lighter and headache and medication free.
To the early commments I would like to say;
The wait is long. However, sometimes I am in and out.
It depends on your appointmanet time.
The foot detox is odd. I do not completely understand it. But you can say NO. It is not a requirement that you get those every time you go. Sometimes I do and sometimes I do not.
I found the staff to be very helpful and correct mistakes when it happens.
Dr. Asa is very busy. I go into the room with my questions written down and I hand them to him. That is the only way to get the questions answered and I do ask a lot of questions. I ask him what is he's doing and why.
It has cost me a lot of money not him, but the supplements. But it has been the best spent money for me.
He doesn't magically fix you. YOU have to do it and be willing to try new things and make the best out all situations.
I have entered the office with a migraine(in the beginning) they got me in fast and actually put me in a dark room with no music. That impressd me. I feel cared about there as an individual. I would highly recommend Dr. Asa and if you feel uncomfortable about something tell HIM not the office staff.
I hope your appointment goes well.
I have spent a bunch of money on Dr Asa's nonsense. I am a long distance patient, and have received nothing but a continual run-arounmd by his staff. I paid nearly 400.00 for blood tests and when I had not heard anything from them for nearly 3 weeks, I finally called, only to hear that they couldn't find them and had no record of them! Then a week later they suddenly turned up, and they said that someone named Vincent would call me for a phone consult, and I still have not heard from him. I keep calling, and have been told everything from "he is sick" to we're very sorry that you are havinmg such a negative result, etc etc etc. I am now demanding a copy of my blood test results (that is if they can find them) and moving on. This is at the top of my "MOST UNPROFESSIONAL' Service experiences to date. I too have seen WAY TOO MANY red flags, and am definetley moving on.
Dani
