My MIL, Dr. Asa Andrew & Dr. Brad Blankenship Visits # 4 & 5

I just dropped my mother-in-law off at the airport. She has been here a week and it was a pleasant visit for all of us. Thank goodness I have a nice mil. :) This is the first time I've been able to get on this blog in a while so here is an update.

Asa Andrew visit #4
This visit was similar to all the others. I started out with the foot detox and then saw Dr. Asa. He again gave me a very gentle chiropractic treatment that was more like applied kinesiology. He also firmly massaged a muscle that is connected to the kidney. He then prescribed adrenal balance, allergy balance, kidney balance and organic iodine drops.

Dr. Brad Blankenship #5 visit
First, I must tell you that I'm feeling great. However, I left The Center for Natural Medicine(Dr. Asa's) today pretty befuddled. I went in and was told that I didn't need to do the foot detox so I sat and waited for my appt with Dr. Brad Blankenship. About 45 minutes later they took me back and took my blood pressure and temperature. About 15 minutes later, he came in. I wasn't sure what was going to take place on this visit. I was only told that he was going to do some diagnostic testing.

He didn't test anything but he did ask me some questions and this is where I started to get a little mad. He was asking me things like, "Why are you here? What's the problem? What did Dr. Mercola's office say was causing the diabetes, etc.?" The whole time I was thinking, "Didn't you read any of my charts? Didn't you read any of the paperwork I copied and gave to Dr. Asa concerning my visits to Dr. Mercola?" It was obvious the answer was no. So, based on the information I could remember from Dr. Mercola's office, he gave his assessment. Please keep in mind that Dr. Brad is a board certified dr. of internal medicine from Vanderbilt.

Anyway, he feels I need a CAT scan of my pancreas b/c I'm in great physical shape and nothing else seems to be wrong. He said I could have a blockage of some sort in my pancreas and I felt this was a nice way of saying I could have a tumor, cancer, whatever. Who knows? He also recommended an EKG, Autonomic Neuropathy Testing, and a Holter Monitoring test, which is a 24 hour test used to diagnose abnormal heart rhythms, dizziness and passing out. I have had some chest pains while exercising so I'm okay with this. Those 3 tests will cost around $300, which we can handle. He also recommended a rhinoscopy at a cost of about $200 for my chronic stuffy nose.

What I'm concerned about is the CAT scan. It could cost thousands and when I asked for a price, no one there seemed to have a clue. Because of that and the large amount of radiation I would be exposed to, I'm going to hold off on that until we get some more information.

We haven't received my bloodwork results yet so I want to see what that reveals first. My previous bloodwork revealed that my insulin levels were in the normal range, which made me think my pancreas was actually doing well.

I don't know what to think anymore, so while I'm in this befuddled state of mind, I'm going to seek more information and wait. I see a few calls to Dr. Brad and/or Dr. Asa in my future for clarification of the risks involved and the necessity of the test. Personally, I wouldn't mind the CAT scan if it tells us something we don't already know. I'm just afraid of the cost. My husband, however, is not concerned about cost, but more concerned about the amount of radiation I could be exposed to. So that's where I am right now. I'm not in a very good place mentally. It's hard giving something like this to God, but I'm doing my best. If you pray, please ask for CLEAR guidance on whether I should have the CAT done. Thanks and I hope you are all doing well.

Hi there, I have never posted on your site before or do I have a blog of my own. I found you by searching on google for Dr. Asa. I have been reading his book empowering your health and I think its an awesome book! I just wanted to tell you that I enjoyed you posting your experience and your opinions with seeing him. I dont have anything serious with my health right now (knock on wood), Im 26, but Im trying to start a path now of good health so I wont have any issues later on and I thought Dr. Asas recommendations were sensible and great. So getting your opinions of your visit definitely helps if one day I would like to go see him myself.
But anyway, just wanted to say thanks again for letting us read you experience!
Thanks!

I just wanted to let you know I just finished seeing Dr. Brad today. I had an EKG, I am on the 24 hour heart monitor and I did a metabolism test. He says I am obese and per my BMI all I need to lose is 20 pounds. I see Dr. Asa tomorrow and I will ask him if he agrees. I was very happy at first, but I am beginning to think it is all about the money. I feel better than I have felt in months. I just don't agree with all the diagnosis.

I just came home today from my visit with Dr Brad and I fell the same way!Thank you for doing this blog it has helped me greatly.
My experience has been identical to yours ~ I was doing very well until today!

Dr Brad told me that people have dis-functions and require things like insulin and Thyroid hormones. I explained the desire of my heart was to get off the Armour ~ TO MY SHOCK ~ He wants me to return to Synthyroid ~ And not to expect to get off it!

What am I doing here?

I got SO upset I left crying ~ Dr Asa called but I can't even talk now AND Dr Brad wants me to go back to ALL the traditional medical tests I turned away from years ago?? WE are talking $$$
Then they have my insurance all messed up? Not a good day!

The diagnosis was Hypo?Thyroid and OBESITY!!!!! He wants me on his lifestyle weight Mgmt plan
HE does not believe in diets – What does Dr ASA have us on???

I am more confused than ever and what about the $1500 plus I have
already invested? Call If you have some advise – You can post all my data it’s cool!

Thank you for all of the comments.

Shannon, you are welcome. My desire is that this blog will help people make more informed decisions regarding their health.

Anon ~ Definitely tell Dr. Asa your concerns. He needs to know and is willing to listen from my experience.

Karen ~ I would give Dr. Asa a call. I was pretty upset after seeing Dr. Brad also. Dr. Asa needs to know that and why. From my past experience, he WILL take the time to listen.

Having had a lot of experience with holistic oriented doctors I was at first excited to hear Dr. Asa Andrew on the radio but have become frustrated with his new website which requires membership to listen to his archived shows. It seems that without paying you can no longer glean any information from Dr. Asa even though he states on his radio show that he knows a lot of his listeners can't afford to even go to a doctor. I know that Dr. Asa is already making a good living with his practice, talk show and lectures. The prices in his "Health Store" or far too high. I don't think he needs to make more money by now charging for his website. The good doctors that I have known make a living but are there to help, not over-treat and are not about the money. I think that perhaps Dr. Asa himself is great, but his handlers/promoters are going for the almighty dollar. There are other shows on the web/radio that offer wonderful information (for example: Bernie Segal) from their archived shows for free. Thank you for your Blog! Rachel

Dear Debbie,

I was listening to Dr Asa's radio show tonight and he said some odd things that had me wondering if he was really a physician. So, in checking the internet, I realize he's not a medical doctor but a chiropractor and I found your blog.

I read your blog from 2008 to the present and I must say it made me sad and mad to a degree. I have to admit that I am super skeptical about holistic medicine. I think some can work, to a degree. But, evidence based medicine seems to show over and over that other things work much more effectively.

At any rate, as I read through your blog I sensed that Dr Asa might be out for the almighty dollar with all his supplement suggestions and "looky, here, I have them right in my office". But, when I got to the part about Dr. Blankenship, it really got my attention because I know him. Well, I should say, I know who he is and he's out to make money. He previously had a string of low end clinics in middle Tennessee where he had nurse practitioners running the places. I think he had a pain clinic, too, perhaps in Woodbury, TN. Without giving away too much, let me just say that I had business dealings with him and he's all about how to make more money. Nothing inherently wrong with that, per se. But, when I saw he had teamed up with Dr. Asa, I was mad and sad because it seems like they are preying on people. Throw in the religious angle that Dr Asa apparently uses and it really made me sick.

I feel so bad for people that fall into the spell of some of these natural medicine "doctors". And, in reading your blog, I kept wondering if you'd figure out that you were spending large amounts of money and ultimately not getting any better. I guess my view is that if you feel better then I guess its worth it. But, with a disease like diabetes, the A1C and blood sugar levels don't lie. They are very objective. So, in a way, I was glad to see you realize that Dr Asa really wasn't helping you. He might be the nicest man out there but he wasn't really helping you with your medical problems.

I'm sorry you wasted so much money, time and hope on him. And, I thank you for posting your blog. Unfortunately, it "ended" predictable because I could tell after a few months worth of posts that Dr. Asa was soaking you and/or your insurance company for lots of money.

At any rate, I hope you find the inner peace you desire and I hope you learn to manage diabetes through medicine and lifestyle changes.

All the best,

anonymous
