Hi Everyone,
I hope you all had a Merry Christmas! Santa (via the relatives) was kind to us this year and brought a trampoline! The weather has been pretty good so we have all been enjoying it...even Mom & Dad. We figure all of that jumping is good for our lymphatic systems. At least that's our excuse!
Here's a quick update of my latest visit to The Center for Natural Medicine. We did the usual foot detox and I noticed Drake, my son, had a lot of heavy metals and liver toxins in his water. When Dr. Asa Andrew saw him he stated that his liver was indeed congested. Drake's bloodwork also indicated that he has high cholesterol of the "bad" variety. Drake was prescribed silver balance for his cough, liver balance and cholesterol balance.
Isabella also had pretty toxic looking water from the foot bath. Dr Asa prescribed liver balance for her as well.
Ashlyn's vitamin D levels were low so she is now on a Vitamin D supplement. Ashlyn also had a pretty good fall the night before and has a serious bruise on her leg. Dr. Karen looked at her and made some chiropractic adjustments in that area. Dr. Karen also adjusted the other kids as well.
Then it was my turn and I was a mess. I went to bed the night before with a lot of sinus pressure and congestion. I woke up and the pressure was so bad my gums were hurting. My sweet husband bought me a Neti pot for Christmas so I used it twice during the day before my dr.'s visit. After the first use, it relieved about 50% of the pressure.
I have also been coughing and have been getting headaches radiating from the base of my skull. Dr. Asa Andrew gave me a chiropractic adjustment and then also applied pressure to my skull while I breathed in through my nose and out through my mouth. During my last visit, he did the same thing and was adjusting the bone plates in my head. He relieved a lot of sinus pressure then and it worked again this time as well. Dr. Asa gave me a special blend of bacteria balance to help with my "cold".
My husband was with me and we briefly talked finances with Dr. Asa as this has been a costly endeavor for us. The dr. was very understanding and asked how he could help. I mention this so you all know that he is willing to work with you. You just need to keep the communication flowing.
After the dr. visit, I had a metabolic test with Vanessa. We discovered that my metabolic rate is higher than normal, indicating a possible problem with my thyroid. This is not surprising since there are thyroid issues in my extended family. I'm also not burning as many calories at rest as I should be.
Well that is it for 2008. Tomorrow morning I am off to the hospital to get my bloodwork done, then coming home to spend the day with my family.
Have a safe and happy New Year!
Debbie

The nutritionist, the magician, the dr. and spider bites. Oh my!
Wow, I can't believe it's been so long since my last post. Probably like many of you, we have been very busy preparing for Christmas. Personally I am still feeling better most of the time. It gets a little depressing being surrounded by treats this time of year, but I decided to allow myself "one little bite" at various Christmas parties so I don't feel too deprived. I figure a little chocolate is good for the soul. Just don't tell the good dr. ;)
The last time we were at Dr. Asa's, my son Drake entertained everyone in the lobby with his magic tricks. The kid is really quite good! It didn't get him out of Dr. Asa prescribing him some B1 though. Apparently he is low, but he is faithfully taking it even though it tastes bad according to him.
Isabella, my youngest, has been taking Silver every day and we have been putting it on her infected spider bite as well. The swelling has gone down immensely but it is still not gone. We are pretty sure it is a Brown Recluse bite and that she got it jumping in the Fall leaves. Thankfully it is on the mend and does not look like it will scar.
Ashlyn was prescribed a cup of chicken broth a day to help with her potassium and salt levels. Her adrenal gland also needs a little help so she is now on adrenal support as well. I think when some of these Christmas programs are over, her stress level will taper off.
As for me, I saw the nutritionist, Vanessa, and she was very helpful. She gave me some recipes to try, advised me on what type of makeup to wear(everything you put on your skin goes into your bloodstream), and some good websites to go to for more gluten free information. The next time I go in, I am supposed to have a metabolic profile done. Usually this is done when you first begin the program at The Center for Natural Medicine, but somehow I missed it.
Time allowing, I have been looking for some gluten free cookie recipes we could make for the holidays. Even though we are on this food plan, I want to try to make everything as normal as possible for the kids. If any of you would like to share a recipe, please feel free. Thanks!
We will see Dr. Asa at least one more time before Christmas and then I'm not sure when my next visit will be.
Until then, have a safe and happy holiday season. Oh, and Merry Christmas!
